I got this great bed on sale for our 19 year old son. He assembled most of it on his own doing a great job. Yes, I agree with the other reviews that the instructions are somewhat vague at places, but not too bad.
I read the reviews before buying the bed so I kinda knew what I was getting into, instructions-wise. And yes; they are super duper vague and counterintuitive. So long as you give yourself plenty of time before you plan on sleeping on it (it took me about 6 hours to assemble it by myself) and follow the instructions to the letter, methodically and without question, you'll be fine. Just surrender to the madness and it will slowly take shape. ('why partially assemble this small segment only to ignore it for several steps while moving on to other small segments?' I said no questions!)
Also, yes; the footboard is very sharp. Thankfully I had read other people's comments about this issue and bought thick foam corner protectors beforehand, and emerged with only 1 minor scrape (acquired before the protectors went on). I put them on the corners as well as along the top and sides of the footboard. Duvet and sheets cover it anyway, and I got a foam colour that matches the bed, so this solution works for us.
All in all we love the bed. It's sturdy, it's cool, it's practical (drawers and cupboards are generous and numerous), and an unbeatable price.
Take your time, plan ahead, enjoy the cool captain's bed.
Four instead of five stars due to sharp footboard.
You need to go at the instructions with an open mind… They are hard to follow but if you use logic and not just the instructions it'll go a whole lot better. It's super cute! I have a really thick mattress and therefore the doors on the headboard are useless to me. I would also say be careful when you walk around it, the sides are sharp and if you hit it just right will rip your clothes.
Really cute! I want one for every room! :)
